Gyokuro is widely regarded as one of Japan's finest green teas — and one of the most prized in the world. Unlike standard sencha, gyokuro is shade-grown for around 20 days before harvest, which transforms the leaf entirely. Shielded from sunlight, the plant produces more L-theanine and chlorophyll, but fewer tannins — resulting in a darker, richer leaf with a deep umami sweetness, no bitterness, and a smooth, lingering finish. Exceptional green tea, brewed slowly and savoured.
