Keemun is one of China's most celebrated black teas, grown in Qimen County in the southern reaches of Anhui Province, where warm, moist soils and a mild climate produce leaves of exceptional character. Prized worldwide for its distinctive winey depth and floral fragrance, it is quite unlike any other black tea.
Mao Feng (Fur Peak) sits at the pinnacle of the Keemun grades. The leaves are long, dark, and wiry - delicately twisted and whole, with fine downy buds visible throughout. Where lower grades use broken or chopped leaf, Mao Feng preserves these unbroken buds and young tender leaves, harvested in early spring when the plant is at its most expressive. The result is a much cleaner, more aromatic brew, free from the astringency of lesser grades.
