A softly hairy, upright perennial reaching around 1 m, widespread across Europe in damp meadows, marshes, and wasteland. It sends up slender spikes of yellow flowers from June to September, with a faint spicy-apricot scent and hooked seed heads that cling to passing animals and clothing.
